Pantone has recently announced that they have picked Viva Magenta (18-1750) as their color of the year for 2023. The color perfectly balances hot and cold. It is a color that evokes many emotions thanks to its mixture of coolness and warmness. The fact that it is rooted in red while also being a rather cooler color shows both intensity and restraint, creating a feeling of balanced positivity and negativity, like the feeling a brave explorer gets when venturing into the unknown.

When describing Viva Magenta, Executive Director of Pantone Leatrice Eiseman said:

In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.

Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”

The color of the year also takes inspiration from the Metaverse itself as 2022 was a huge year for Metaverse. The main sentence used on the banner on the announcement page for 2023’s color of the year says “Welcome to the Magentaverse.” Viva Magenta is the perfect color to encapsulate the bravery of the technologic world of today and nature’s beauty in a single color.
